I got into the Disk Utility and set up my partition. I have tried to install 10.6 twice and it freezes on installation stating: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." Does anyone know how to fix this or what is wrong? |

K, that didn't work. It freezes at 19 minutes remaining on installation (I think it froze at 19 minutes every time it froze, no matter what customization I had selected). I am going to try repartitioning the drive and installing without any customization. Any other ideas? K, repartition and no customization install froze again. Tried swapping the hard drive with the original one (I was using a SSD ealier) and it does the same thing (freezes and tells me to power off). | |

After restarting I booted again with the boot cd and tried to resume the install but it just hung on the gray screen with an apple logo and the spinning circle for about an hour before I gave up. In my opinion the DellEFI seemed more reliable though less friendly. I wonder if the newer BIOS on my 10v and 9 are behind any of these issues. I seem to be completely unable to reinstall OSX to either netbook when they installed without any problems prior. I guess I will try downgrading the BIOS tomorrow and give them both another go. |

In the log, you can select to see only errors or all activity. It might help to be watching all log activity to see at what point the thing fails, as this may give some insights as to where the problem is. (I had a similar prob the other day, failing to extract/verify a package, ie: USB image was corrupted in some way; knowing the failure mode I was able to see I needed to re-image the USB stick, which then worked perfectly). P.S. On my machine, an "8.21GB" install w/o the extras (no fonts, printers etc) basically starts at 19mins to go. So yours is failing pretty early on in the process. |

Could be an issue: - with the original DVD (try cleaning/polishing it) - with the thumb drive (try re-partitioning it) - with the restore process. (no clue how to fix this except to try again) |
