Default When do you remove the USB drive after install? - 03-19-2010, 10:32 PM

Hi all:

I just ordered my 10v for OSX'ng a few days ago and it should be here on Tuesday. In the meantime, I have been reading up on some of the install guides so that I am ready to go when the unit arrives.

I plan on following the guide posted on Gizmodo on installing OSX on a 10v. I understand that you enter the BIOS so that it will boot from your USB drive so that you can install it...

But after OSX is done installing and you're done putzing around... do you just shut down and remove the USB drive? And if so, do you have to enter the BIOS again when you start up to tell it to boot from the HD?

I know this is probably a really basic question, but my professional background has made me heavily dependent on extremely detailed and spelled out instructions.

Thanks to whoever can answer. Appreciate it!

Welcome to MyDellMini

After you complete the install, run NBI and then restart. Once you do that, you can remove the USB thumb drive and it will boot from the internal.

You would want to re enter the BIOS and disable USB Legacy as it will hinder your mini's ability to sleep properly most of the time.

As a side note, I would skip the Gizmodo guide, as it is basically a plagiarized version of the install method written by Mechdrew on his site. His guides are the best written that I have seen for the Dell Minis.

seconded...the gizmodo guide is the one i originally used and it left me with a few unanswered questions. mechdrew's guide is more up to date, accurate and easier to follow.
