Default 10.6.2 Sound Issues - 03-13-2010, 12:28 PM

Hi guys! New here, so be kind.

So I recently got a mini 10v and installed a legit copy of Snow Leopard on it. It was working fantastically until I updated today to 10.6.2 and now I have no sound. System preferences couldn't detect any audio devices so I figure its a driver issue. Currently, the volume control and the sound settings are all grayed out.

So, can anyone point me in the direction of a new audio driver or will I have to downgrade? BTW, my bios is A06 if that helps at all.

Cheers all for your help.

I had this. Running NBI and rebooting can fix it. Do a search, others have had the same problem.

This messed my install up, but seems to fix everyone elses.

Default Sound and Bluetooth problems with 10.6.2 - 03-14-2010, 05:44 PM

Have run into a very similar problem to Joe's. Just installed Snow Leopard onto a new 10v, worked like a dream. No issues except for a problem awaking from sleep that I'll deal with separately.

Installed 10.6.2 using the Software Update function. Installed fine except (1) now I have no sound - the sound icon on the menu bar is grayed out - and (2) I cannot turn Bluetooth off. That option has disappeared from the Bluetooth menu bar icon drop down menu.

Has anyone run into this? Will running NBI help me out? James, it makes me nervous when you say running NBI "messed my install up." What does that mean?

Many thanks, this is a terrific forum.

Yes, *everyone* that has upgraded to 10.6.2 has run into the no audio issue. You *must* run NBI again after the update then reboot to get audio working again. thejames' experience that doing so "messed his install up" is an aberration. As to the BT issue, see what it looks like after you run NBI again.

Many thanks, that seems to have fixed it up. Now to tackle that sleep problem...

Hi everyone. I'm having the same sound problem, but it's recurring.

I've run NBI and rebooted and that fixes it. But only for a while. All of a sudden, I'll go to adjust the sound and it will be greyed out again. Once again, NBI+reboot fixes it, but I'm getting really sick of going through that whole 8-10 minute process all the time.

Anybody know of any way to fix this? Am I the only one this has happened to? I'm starting to wonder if I should just do a whole new OS install and start over from scratch, though I really don't want to do that.

Have you tried just rebooting (not running NBI) to see if that fixes it?
