Default Everything but Wireless. Ack! - 03-12-2010, 07:05 AM

Got my 10V tonight. Used Mechdrew's great guide and completed the install using the latest version of NetbookMaker. Used a wired connection and did an update to the OS and then used netbook installer again. Tried turning on and off WLAN in the bios. No luck! On the Network System Preference, wireless doesn't show as an option. Appreciate much any help in getting wireless running! Thanks much!

I'm even newer than you at this! Expecting my machine today.

Did you ensure wifi was enabled before you started the install? Perhaps (and I'm guessing here) by plugging in an ethernet cable, you automatically disabled the wifi device?

Darn! Ch11 change didn't work. In the network sys pref, still no option for wireless.

I didn't plug it into an ethernet cable before I did the install. Got the ubuntu version so didn't play around it with it for more than five minutes before I started the install.

Appreciate any other thoughts. Really don't want to have to go back and reinstall ubuntu.

Thanks!

Checked System Profiler. Under WWAN it says No information. Is this an indication of a prob with the wireless card? Thanks!

In System Profiler it is the Airport item, not WWAN.

Make sure it's enabled in BIOS (not sure there is that option, I've not looked in BIOS for a while).

The wi-fi card is under the small door with a single screw in the bottom of the 10v. Look there and make sure one is installed and that the two antenna wires are connected. If so, you can remove the card and re-seat it to make sure connection is good.

Thanks. I looked in system profiler under (think it was AirCard), and it doesn't show any info on the wireless card the way that my MB Pro does. Makes me think that SL doesn't recognize that there's an air card.

I checked and did see that there's a wireless card and that it the two wires are connected but haven't tried re-seating. Will have to give that a try. I wonder if there's a way in the BIOS setup to see if the Mini sees that the wireless card is recognized/functioning.

Thanks again!

Appreciate any other thoughts!

Default Lint! - 03-13-2010, 04:03 AM

It was lint! I removed the wireless card and found a small piece of lint! Took it off, replaced the card, and presto! Yay! Thanks again for the suggestion.
