Default Video playback on os x and windows 7 - 03-09-2010, 10:23 PM

I've noticed that when I run windows 7, i am able to play hq YouTube videos (480p) without any lag or choppyness. But on OS X I get major choppyness if it's anything better than standard 360p. I have the latest flash plugins for both OS's and I'm running firefox on both as well. Is this supposed to happen???

I admit I do have additional software installed on OS X (as I prefer to use it over windows 7). In particular I have Mozy installed on my os x partition, which is constantly running in the background. Maybe that is hogging up resources? Or the Dashboard? I don't know if either of those two would be significant enough to cause laggyness in videoplayback tho.

I will hazard a guess the issue is the flash player - my mini 10 can play many video files in pretty high def w/o issue but hulu (flash) remains a little choppy even in the lowest resolution.

Have you set safari/youtube to use html 5 video ?

I ended up uninstalling Mozy and wow, my 10v is much more responsive now and 480p is not laggy for the majority of videos.

I tried HTML 5 just for the hell of it anyways. As of right now I think I'm going to stick to flash because 1. firefox doesn't support it, and firefox has the best extensions IMO and fullscreen in OS X, and 2. the video quality seems a little lower when I tried HTML 5, and 3. no fullscreen in html 5 yet =(
