Default Triple Boot Success - 03-08-2010, 07:59 PM

Finally got this working.

I bought Kingston HyperX 2GB mem and a Hitachi 500GB 7200rpm HDD. Came in Friday.

After reading about how to triple boot using Netbookinstaller, I tried making the small USB flash drive and copied the MacOSX disk to an ISO then to the big USB flash drive. Booted to it, got some kind of mach error. Gave up on that idea. I decided to try Windows first so I partitioned using the windows 7 installer [400win,100free]. Installed Windows, got it updated, then went about trying to get Mandriva Linux One 2010 installed. Partitioned the freespace in half and installed on the 2nd partition. Then I got my USB IDE adapter and plugged it into a DVD rom. Ran the NetbookBootCD and tried to swap to my OSX disk and it would just hang on F5. I thought I'd try booting directly to the OSX disk and low and behold it booted directly to the setup! I tried installing it but it wouldn't let me use the free space to install. SO I removed all the partitions with the OSX install disk utility and partitioned it [400free,50hfs,50free]. Installed macos, then went on to installing windows. I had to delete the 400gb partition and rebuild, but the windows 7 install kept complaining that it couldn't install in that partition. Rebooted and it allowed me to install in the NTFS partition I made. Finished that, then installed mandriva via a live usb flash key I made. Pointed grub to MAC OS, windows and linux and now I can boot to any of the 3 on start up. Only problem I have sofar is that macos does not recognize my wireless card and it runs at 800X600 so it's squashed.

out of curiosity does your hdd click? the thread here said the hitachis might be the best way to go. if it doesn't...do you happen to have the exact model? and congrats on the triple boot, i'm planning on dual booting, i just want to plug a bigger hdd and do it all at once.

I bought the hard drive from tigerdirect. It doesn't click but it makes a noise like there's a fan in there. The UPC says item:96700-20500-007 Hitatchi Travelstar 500gb sata HD20500 IDK/7K

Any idea on how to get network connectivitiy to macos? I've applied all the dell mini extensions via netbookinstaller, but wired and wireless connections do not work.

Finally got everything working. I got rid of grub as my main loader and used easybcd to load osx and windows and reinstalled mandriva and put the bootloader on the linux partition itself and pointed easybcd to it. Now it will boot to easy bcd with the 3 options and if i choose linux it executes grub. I think macos doesn't work well with grub that's why the extensions weren't loading. As soon as I tried easybcd, all the hardware in osx worked perfectly.
