Question Snow Leopard install Help! - 03-02-2010, 05:30 PM

Hey.

So, I thought I would give this a try. I have a 8GB usb and a 200MB usb which I used for the Snow Leopard image and the NBI_083F file. I used this guide to prepare my USB drives (on a Windows PC) and I have a problem with the installation.

When I insert the USB drives into the 10v and boot, press F12 and choose 'USB Drive' it just boots into Windows 7?

Can someone suggest another way for me to prepare the USB drives?

The files I am using are macdvd.dmg and NBI_083F.img.

I'm a noob to the Hackintosh scene, but I did successfully load Snow Leopard onto my 10v this past weekend with no issues at all. Before plugging in the flash drive, did you go into the setup menu (or whatever it's called when it boots) and move the USB drive option to the top of the list?

Yeah I done this. Just there I actually re-done the small USB and it loaded up with the Netbookinstaller fine. I was about to redo the macdvd.iso then something weird happened. I changed the extension to .img and the file disappeared? I searched for it and it it shows the shortcut which says the file cannot be located? What the hell?

I found it For some reason, when I renamed it the file moved to my Virtual Box Folder. Anyway, I am going to try and write it to the USB now I'll report back

Is your flash drive a SanDisk Cruzer and, if so, did you remove U3 from it?

No it is a maxwell usb. the smaller usb boots fine on it's own. when I put them in together it boots to windows 7. Really clueless?

I got further! When they are both in, I get to a screen where it says 'Media test failure, check cable' then 'exiting PXE ROM' then 'Operating System not found'

In NBI I only see 'System Reserved' and 'Windows NTFS'

You need to remake the big USB drive. Try using dd. Using Windows to create the big USB drive seems to be hit or miss. Try using dd from a Linux LiveCD if Windows dd doesn't work. Also if your SL image came from any place other than a retail upgrade ISO DVD that you imaged yourself, it is suspect and may result in errors even if you manage to get installation started.

The image I downloaded was a retail copy (bought digitally) and it downloaded as a .dmg so I changed it to .img and burned it.
