Default Snow leopard installed with NBI 0.8.2 how do I now add drivers from NBI 0.8.3 - 03-01-2010, 08:33 AM

I spent ages over the weekend trying to install snow leopard on my 10v following Meklort's guide using NBI 0.8.3. Each time I got a kernal panic and instructions to restart my machine. I tried different usb keys. My 10v is about 6 months old and still has BIOS A04. Eventually I tried using NBI 0.8.2 which, after several hangs and restarts, installed fine.

I now want to update to 10.6 2 but believe to do so I need drivers from the NBInstaller or NBMaker 0.8.3. I've read various posts as to how to achieve this. Either I can run NBI from inside a normally booted 10.6.0 on my 10v, or I need to boot into safe mode somehow and then run it or I need to boot off my usb key zapped with 0.8.3 and run it from there. Each instruction seems to have caused problems for someone or other in the comments associated with the post.

If someone could clarify the correct way to go about this I'd be extremely grateful. And if I need to run it off a usb key how do I change my machine so I can do this without a kernal panic.

Thanks.

All you have to do to update NBI as new versions come out is download the new version and run it with the options you need checked. You would do this in 10.6, while running a normal boot. Doing it in safe mode is useless.

I would suggest also downloading the newer version of NBM and updating your USB install drive, if you made one. This makes it super easy to recover an install if you screw something up.

Right, that sounds easy.

I have tried updating the USB drive I installed SL with by running 0.8.3 on it but when I tried to boot off it I once again got the same result. The HD icon counts down, the grey Apple logo appears fleetingly then a see through screen drops down advising I restart in various languages. As I'm doing exactly the same as I did with 0.8.2 I'm lost as to what's going wrong. A separate "drive" seems to be created when I run the 0.8.3 NBI, appearing in the finder as "untitled". It can't be ejected or force ejected. I have to restart my mac to get rid of it. As it didn't appear when I just used 0.8.2 I suspect it's implicated in my problems.

Any ideas?

There must have been something on my mac interfering with the zapping process of 0.8.3 on my prepared usb as I have just tried booting into safe mode on my mac by holding down shift key while booting, then used 0.8.3 on my usb drive. It worked perfectly. Didn't create anything extra and now don't get a kernal panic when I boot off it on my 10v. Hopefully I'll never have to use it of course but it's nice to know where the problem was occurring.

That was most likely just the ramdisk that NBI creates and uses during the installation process.
