I figured out another way to fix things. When I had set up the netbook, I split the hdd in half with the other side being left for Windows that I never installed. I then installed a 2nd OSX on that side of the drive and then copied all my files over to the accessible part of the drive.
Once accessible, I copied everything over to a USB drive and put it on my brothers computer.
Now I have wiped out the computer and have re partitioned it, with still 2 partitions but they are both formatted for OSX and the 2nd one is smaller. I decided to do it this way in case I messed up my installation again.
Its now reinstalling. Now I have a question about the SL combo update. Updating to 10.6.2 is what messed me up in the first place. How do I install this update without borking the OSX again? I am following Mechdrew's guide, just as I had originally.

Make sure you have previously run NBI 0.8.3 Final with the "Install bootloader" option checked before you update to 10.6.2. Run NBI again after the update otherwise audio won't work.
