that guy got most of his info off of my own article written about the same subject...

Dougit Design Blog Blog Archive Does your Apple notebook hard drive (HDD) ever sound like little mice are playing table tennis inside of it? Or, why your HDD might be pre-programmed for quick failure.

my article even tips its hat to the Dell Mini 10v...

Thanks Doug, so I gather from your blog that this is still unresolved for mini 10v. I guess only time will tell how big a problem, but if drives fail in the 12 month warranty period then we should be due a replacement,I would think.

your drive most likely will not fail in a year.

If it clicks/makes noise constantly, like every 5 second, I would try and effectively UNinstall ANTIPOP if you have it installed for the "speaker Pop" issue.

Per my blog, when I uninstalled antipop my HDD noise went from every 5 seconds to about every 30 seconds, and it is not a "click" per say, but more of a very loud "head seeking" movement.

Also, try installing the very latest "security update" from Apple 2010-001, as it does not hurt anything on a dell mini 10v setup, and might make some changes that affect HDD's in a positive way...worth a try.

BTW, right now, Hitachi HDD's seem to be the quietest with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, in my personal observation.

Thanks again, Doug. My 10v is utterly silent and I thought that I was unaffected by any problem till I had a look with Smart Utility. I recall seeing a post by someone freaking with a count in the 5 millions, so the suggested 250 thousand figure for drive failure is obviously pretty rubbery.
