Install stops after a few seconds - 02-20-2010, 05:07 AM
Hi guys, I just got my Dell Mini 10v today and tried to Hackintosh it, but failed. It's the only reason I bought it, so I'm hoping I can get it working.
I own the retail copy of the Snow Leopard DVD. I tried to simply install it with an external DVD drive, but it will not boot from it. Frustrating, since I spent $60 on it, for this reason alone. I then decided to do it with a USB drive instead.
First off, I do not have a Mac, and I do not have any friends with one, so I can't make the Flash Drive with a Mac. So I am using this guide:
NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System | Guides | OS X | mechdrew
All goes well until I load the Mac OS X install drive. I get the Apple logo for about 10 seconds, and then the "Please hold the power button to restart" error message pops up. I figured this had something to do with the A06 BIOS, so I make a DOS bootable drive, and force the downgrade to A04. No problems there. But it still does the exact same thing after a few seconds. I am at a total loss. I thought it was supposed to be easy with the 10v. I did this awhile ago with my Inspiron 1525 and had a lot less problems.
The absolute only thing that tutorial says, that I didn't do, was use a 16GB drive for the Mac OS X drive. I used an 8GB, because thats the biggest I have. The image file was only 7.2GB, so it fit, and I didn't get any "too big" errors. It wrote it without a problem. I used Alcohol 120% to make the Mac OS X image.

Are you using this tutorial?

If you don't have an external drive, go buy one, and return it afterwards. It should work though.
