Question 10v A06 10.6.2(retail) refuses to install (grey screen o' death) - 02-18-2010, 10:39 AM

a 10v, had 10.6.2 up and running. installed with 8.3rc4 and a real retail 10.6.2 disk. upgraded the ram to 2gb, then the motherboard had a problem. it killed the sound and bluetooth. swapped the module, same prob. dell came and replace the motherboard. everything was working except the sound. i tried to fix it. somehow effed up the install, couldn't fix it. tried to re-install. ... that's where it went horribly wrong.

now, the install dies partway into it. after chosing the disk, setting the custom options and hitting the install button - like clockwork, at 3minutes it dies with the grey screen of death. every time.

all the bios options are set right, i was able to install it before, but now, it simply refuses.

any one seen this behavior and/or have any tips on how to get this thing working? i don't have a mac, only a VM running 10.6.2

in the absence of a response, i have force downgraded the bios to A04. will post success or failure.
maybe it's the replacement motherboard. maybe something weird with it. i will see if i can upgrade the bios after the fact if/when the install completes.

well, downgrading to A04 worked. Bluetooth worked even before i installed netbookmaker.
used the dell slot-load external usb dvd (the one that looks just like the mini10v, to install, used 8.3rc4 and a REAL snow leopard disk from Media Market.
audio worked. wireless, etc. only thing was the wired network didnt appear until after netbookinstaller RC5.
making a blackup to a 32gb usb flash drive, but it incorrectly recognizes the size as 2TB instead of 32GB. weird.
upgrade to 2gb RAM worked fine. replaced the trackpad and keyboard (took them off for the install since it was giving problems before - maybe didn't need to)
battery indicator reporting correctly.
About shows processor as 1.6 unknown. will fix later.
external display didnt auto-detect, needed manual intervention, but 19" lcd working as expected now.
not going to do the update just yet. have read that it can kill audio, and besides, why fix it if it ain't broke?

I don't think that NBI 0.8.3 RC4 works with BIOS A06 on 10v I think you need to use RC5 or 0.8.3 final. Once you have installed though I believe you can upgrade to A06.

Mini 9 | Mac OS X 10.6.5 | 2 GB RAM | 64 GB Stock STEC SSD | BIOS A05 | USB Legacy Mode: OFF | Bluetooth: OFF | NBI 0.8.4(20100616212351)
