Question Dell mini 10v wich W-Lan Card? - 02-17-2010, 01:30 PM

Hi!

I think about to order a Mini 10v and i want to run SL on it.

My Question:Wich W-Lan Card to order? The 1397 (b/g) or the 1510 (n)

Do they run both on OSX SL?

Wich will be better choice to order?

Thx for answers

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Both cards will run under Snow Leopard, although they will be seen as 'third party' cards.

What a number of members (including me) have done is to 'flash' their cards, using a bootable Live Unix stick, so that they are then seen as an Apple Airport card.

This is quite an easy process, and has been discussed in some length here.

It is not something you have to do though.

As to which card to go for, if you have a 'n' spec router, I suppose the 1510 is a better choice... that was the one I went for anyway.

Enjoy!

As I flashed mine before I 'hackintoshed' I can't say for sure, but I would imagine that it would still be picked up during the actual installation process, and apart from typing in your wireless security 'key' when prompted there is no other configuration necessary.

Default Both work fine - 02-20-2010, 12:50 AM

I have had both the 1397 and the 1510, both work as is out of the box with Snow Leopard (NBI, follow Mechdrew's guide), no need to flash.

Default I had issues with 1510 - 02-20-2010, 01:09 AM

I first had the 1510 and it worked great on every network except the one at where I work. I kept getting time out errors.

I then flashed it so that it would be seen as an Apple card, but that did not improve it at all.

Finally, I bought a 1397 off ebay and it worked like a charm.

I have no idea what the deal was, but it works now.
