Exclamation NetbookBootmaker problem - NEED HELP ! - 02-16-2010, 01:59 AM

Hi guys,
I'm trying to install SnowLeopard on my 10v so,
- I restored the dmg file to my 8gb cruzer.
- I then ran Netbook bootmaker 0.8.3 downloaded from here
- from the drop down list I can't find my USB, only see my "Macintosh HD" drive. I try plugging in the other USB and External HDD but still nothing shows up.
- I tried 0.8.1 and it shows up, but my mini10v is A06 so I need the newest one which is 0.8.3 right? Then I replug it and it doesn't show up anymore weird!

Googled but nobody seem to encounter this problem, so could you help me out?
and how does the USB look like when you finished restoring SnowLeopard disc on it? I click on mine and it has the same .dmg file. Doesn't feel right to me..
Really lost right now Please HELP!!

Thanks so much

What do you mean by this? Are you saying that you see the .dmg file on your flash drive if so, no, that is not right. You do not just copy the .dmg to the flash drive. You have to restore it to the flash drive using Disk Utility.

that's what I did, it took ~1 hour to do so will try it again. In the mean time anybody knows what's wrong with NetbookBootmaker? I don't want to take the risk of downgrading the BIOS....

Dont downgrade your bios.

You dont have to copy the NBM, you have to run it under osx and just to choose your USB Stick with your snow leo on it.

You cant see the NBM on your stick, because its packed as NBI in the Installationfolders from SL.

If you installed SL to your 10v, you can see and run the NBI under Programs.

Good Luck

No I won't Thanks

You dont have to copy the NBM, you have to run it under osx and just to choose your USB Stick with your snow leo on it.
The problem is I CAN'T choose the USB. It only shows "Macintosh HD", which is my main hard drive, in the drop down menu. So I can't run NBM.

You cant see the NBM on your stick, because its packed as NBI in the Installationfolders from SL.
It's the other way around - I can't see my usb stick on the NBM

If you installed SL to your 10v, you can see and run the NBI under Programs.
Good Luck
Thanks

Ok, sorry i didnt understand that correctly before.

Just to eliminate all possible failures.

Did you format your USB Stick to HFS?

Did you choose the right partition table? MBR or GUI

And choosed restore image(retail Disc) in the Discutility to your usb stick destination?

When you did all things right, perhaps you have to try another USB Stick.

Good Luck

are you using a mac to create the boot drive? or are you using a vm?

I ran into the same problem with my vm of SL due to it running workstation 5.0 which doesn't support the USB Controller, another thing is if your restore of the .dmg onto your flash drive wasn't done properly or completely could be the reason it's not being detected by Netbook Bootmaker which was another problem I ran into.

Keep us posted.

Not sure which program you are using to put the Snow Leopard image on your USB stick, but I can recommend TransMac, as it is then virtually a one-step process from the DVD straight to your USB stick, as follows:-

Install TransMac and then run the program. Insert the DVD into your drive and the larger USB drive into an available port. Right-click on your DVD, select "Save Image of Disk" and save it to a folder on your hard drive. Wait for this to finish. Next, right-click on your flash drive, highlight "Format Disk" and select "Format with Disk Image". Select the DVD image you just created, "Open", and then click "Yes". Wait for this to finish, this will probably take at least half an hour.

You might already have tried this, but it worked for me! (Using Mechdrew's No. 2 method.)

I also used TransMac to transfer the NBI image.

Well, everything worked out for me, I didn't format the USB probably that's why. Once everything is done right Netbookbootmaker does the job.
While installing SL, toward the end is says Mac OS X can not be install blah blah blah...and that freaked me out. But when I reboot it got in just fine. Just got the trackpad to run smooth with multitouch, now i'm trying to make the sleep/wake work.
