Default Sleep/Hibernate doubts - 02-08-2010, 07:19 PM

Hi,
I just got a Dell Mini 10v, promptly hackintoshed, and I can say I am really satisfied with it. Following the guides here (thanks folks!) I set up nearly everything, my bluetooth wakes up after sleeping, so does wi-fi, sound popping but doesn't bother me too much, 7 hours battery...really, really really satisfied.
Now I have a doubt about sleep/hibernate.
The Mini sleeps correctly (good boy...), wakes correctly, though if I reboot it I see the message that the image is older than...
Now, I read "additions not in the current release" thread, and it says to disable sleep/hibernate.
That's where I don't get it; I still want my mini to work at least how it's working now, i.e. sleeping when I close the lid or when it has been inactive for a long time, and I would like it to hibernate when the battery dies. How should I proceed?

Hibernate just doesn't work at all for most people. In fact, I doubt it works for anyone on 10.6.2. The few who have responded to various polls and said it works for them are likely confused about what hibernate is. You can just ignore the "hibernate image is too old" message at startup unless it causes hang ups.

Well I will ignore it then, thanks

I don't understand. I have 10.6.2 on my 10v and hibernate works just fine for me. What am I missing?

Just to be clear, you can have apps open in OS X (not just Finder), have the battery run all the way down (or pull it), then boot back into OS X just as you left it--with all apps open exactly as you left them? If so, I'd like to work with you to get some information to see if I can figure out why it works for you so that hopefully we can fix it for everyone.

You can use the "hack" listed in the guide you read to remove the error message and disable hibernation. It can always be re-enabled after, and removing it will not affect how it currently sleeps.

I cannot get Hibernate working on my 10v with 10.6.2 and had the same thought as you, people claiming to have it working are just confused. I have recently had a PM conversation with ahandlen003 who claims to have it working and seems to know the difference between sleep and hibernate. You might want to speak to him.

His explanation of how he got it working doesn't really make sense to me though:

Yes i do have it working, now for how i cant seem to find the article anymore but it was 10.5.8 instructions that worked for 10.6.2 it was on the mydellmini forums but cannot find the link to it any more so my only advice is: Search is your friend. It definetly took me a while to find it so good luck
As far as I was concerned the 10.5.8 instructions involve replacing the BOOT file with another version that allows hibernate to work properly. I know this because that is what I did when I was running 10.5.8 and it worked fine. However, 10.6.2 wont doesn't support the Atom processor without Meklorts BOOT file so you cannot use the 10.5.8 method

As far as I can tell, replacing the bootloader (Chameleon) is no longer necessary because the changes that were in the fixed replacement have been incorporated into NBI Chameleon. More importantly, I believe that part of the equation only deals with restoring the saved hibernate image. The problem I have on 10.6.2 is that the hibernate image gets created but never actually gets the contents of RAM written to it--it is all nulls (00). I suspect a problem with DSDT and/or ioreg. I would like to compare contents of both on a working system (if someone actually verifies they have one) to a non-working one. It may be as simple as certain models of the HDD support hibernate and some don't (that would explain why some can get it to work but not others).
