Is this just to fix the fact that photo booth doesn't fully fit onto the screen? or are there other issues with photo booth?

I believe that it it is just intended to "fix" the size issue. There are other more general workarounds for that issue, which affects more than just PhotoBooth. None are 100% satisfying, unfortunately.

I just opened the Automator scripts that are in the dmg. It looks like they are simply setting the usual AppleDisplayScaleFactor

The workflow:
1. Quit PhotoBooth
2. defaults write com.apple.PhotoBooth AppleDisplayScaleFactor .75
3. Launch PhotoBooth

The uninstaller simply sets the scale factor to 1

P.S. I manually set my scale factor to .85 as this makes Photo Booth fill the screen (vertically) on my 10v (1024x600).
