Default panic "Unable to find driver .... ACPI" upon install - 01-27-2010, 02:58 AM

Hello, I just picked up a 10v and I am attempting to install 10.6 on it. I am getting this error after loading the OSX USB.

"panic(cpu 0 caller 0x558993): "Unable to find driver for this platform:\"ACPI\".\n"@/sourcecache/xnu/xnu-1456/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1389
debugger call: <panic>
backtrace (CPU 0), Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack)
......
.....
...

And I am getting a Restart needed screen on top of that.

I am following mechdrew's guide for installing without using a Mac. I using 2 USB drives (one 16gb and one 1gb).

I am using a retail disk of 10.6 and have tried several rips of it.
I have also tried NBI_083F.img and NBI_083RC3.img but I get the same error.

Also, I downgraded the bios from A06 to A04, but that did not help the issue.

Thanks for your help, Carl

Same problem.

But, with the NBI_083F.img a "Please reboot"-screen appears.
With the NBI_083RC3.img a "Please reboot"-screen with kernel panic background appears.

Which system do u use on your pc to prepare the usb devices?

mike

I am using Windows XP SP3 to prepare the USB drives.

I have also tried a copy of 10.5.6 with the same results.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem. Started with the 6 BIOS, downgraded to 5 but still have the same issues. Using the most current NBI.

Thanks for the response.

I got mine working with a direct byte copy in linux and re copying the NBI.

Little voodoo and a chicken sacrifice and the install went through.

Now I get this Kernel Panic: Unable to find driver for this platform:\"ACPI\"

I've spent hours on this and have gotten nowhere. I think I'm going to give up and just run Ubuntu or Windows. Lord.
