Unhappy no sound/audio device on Dell 10v - 01-26-2010, 10:42 PM

I have searched around here for a solution but I have not found one that helps me. So I decided to write a post.

I installed Mac OS X on my Dell mini 10v using the guide at OS X | mechdrew

All is running fine except the sound. I had a look in the system preferences and there is no sound device even showing. The sound was working fine when I was using Ubuntu so I know the device exists.

Any suggestions??

My suspicion is that you ran the update after installing. I did the same thing, and lost sound until I re-ran the latest version of NBI. Additionally, you might want to try just posting to one thread, and not the same question to two different threads.

Good Luck!

Not sure what you mean by running the update. But how do I go about and re-run the latest version of NBI?

I didn't mean to post to two threads. I didn't realise the other one posted as I realised I was posting to the Dell mini 9 section. Thought I cancelled the post. My apologies

I have a similar issue were the sound doesn't work on an initial start but after a restart it works.

Am I to understand that I can install netbook installer after the installation of OSX or do I have to redo the entire install?

Thanks in advance

That's another problem I'm having. I can't even restart. I still need to use the netbookCD to get it to book into Mac OS

my problem is pretty minor. If I need it I can restart but would like it fixed if it's easy enough.

Hopefully some computer wizard on this board has the answer for us.

Yes. Not only can you, but you MUST run NBI again after any major OS update (i.e. 10.6 to 10.6.2). Sounds like both of you need to download and run the latest NBI.

Dell Mini 10v | Mac OS X 10.6.2 | Windows 7 Professional | Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 | 1GB RAM | 160GB HDD | BIOS A05 | USB Legacy: OFF | USB Wake: OFF | BT: Enabled (self-installed BCM2046) | NBI 0.8.3 final

Well. The install is complete and appears to work well. Thanks!!!

Now what's the latest version that works with a 10v? I think I read 10.6.2 somewhere.

10.6.2 is the latest (non-beta) release of OS X. The 10v will run 10.6.2 fine as long as you a) run NBI 0.8.3 at least once prior to updating to 10.6.2 (be sure to check the box for installing the bootloader) and b) run NBI again once the update applies and your 10v restarts. Audio most likely won't work until you do so and restart again.

BTW, other than some fixable problems with multi-boot setups involving Windows, it is generally safe to run NBI even if you have already run it in the past. In fact, when a new version of NBI comes out, it will be to your benefit to do so because it will probably include updated drivers etc.
