The only software you can really install is included in the latest NBI 0.8.3 release. There used to be kexts to install separately (recommended in the Gizmodo article) but they are all included in NBI. One common thing people do is place very strong and sticky tape over the corners. Many people swear by this, but i have yet to try it. A more extreme measure is to replace the 10v trackpad with the one from a Mini 10. Again, I've not done this.
So sorry, no software you can really install :*(
Best bet, get a mouse. Saves you lots of frustration. Even so, unless you are coming off of a Macbook, the trackpad isn't really that much worse than some others. I recommend a Magic Mouse. There are a few issues with waking from sleep with it, but it's still fantastic. If you go for a USB mouse, make sure USB Legacy is disabled in thE BIOS so you are able to wake from sleep with it plugged in.

I find that as long as you set up the threshold for one and two fingers to be at least at the middle, you can get it working without any problems.
Since this is my first experience using OS X, I am still using the right click extensively...
