Windows 7 OSX and Acronis - 01-19-2010, 10:54 AM
This is my first post except for a hello in the french speaking section. I'm considering buying a OSX retail disk in order to make my 10v into a dual boot 7/OSX; I've got a couple of questions that I couldn't find answers to:
1. I already have Windows 7 installed and I don't want to lose my settings, installed apps etc. Is there a guide for my situation? (I thought of using this one:Installing OSX with Windows 7 already installed
but instead of reinstalling Windows 7 at step 3, I'd restore an Acronis image of my current setup via the Acronis USB boot utility. Would this work?
2.What is an acceptable size for an OSX partition? (I have a 160gb HDD)
3.Can I use the same data partition for Windows 7 and OSX (i.e. a third partition)?
4. I use Truecrypt full disk encryption; is this compatible with a dual-boot 7/OSX configuration?
5. Could I install OSX as my hidden operating system in Truecrypt?
I know that the last two questions are more Truecrypt related than OSX but I figured that if anyone knows the answer, they'll be here.

Depending on the number and arrangement of your partitions (keep in mind there may be a couple of hidden ones), you may have problems getting Windows to see a shared data partition. This is due to the 4-partition limit of the MBR and the default way gptsync syncs the MBR to the GPT. I have elsewhere described how I believe one can overcome this problem.
« This is amazing. Thank you everyone who put in their time to make this work. | ive installed 10.6, what now? »
