Hey there everybody,

I have a 10v with 10.6.2 which was working beautifully until today... It starts up goes through the normal boot process but then after about 2 minutes the standard SL splash star background comes up. Mouse shows up and works, but no icons, no login. just sits there forever...

The only thing I did do yesterday was install Office 2008... Is that a known problem? It was kinda weird as well, after I installed it a few minutes later, I closed my laptop to sleep mode, but when I opened it, to log back in, my password didn't work anymore! I thought it was just a bug so a did a hard restart and that's where I am now.

Any suggestions? Is there a way to repair an install of MACOSX I'm new at the mac thing.

Safe mode doesn't work either.

I installed Office 2008 on my 10v using a usb DVD drive a couple of weeks ago with no problems then or since.

If you used a usb stick to install Office it could be that led to a problem (e.g., some residual OS image on the stick itself).
