Lightbulb Apple Logo Case Mod - 01-03-2010, 04:49 PM

My first post here on mydellmini forums. Want to first of all say thanks so much to everyone for making it possible for me to have such a fantastic hackintosh which i am typing on right now.

Anyway yesterday i discovered a great way to complete the look of the dell mini 10v giving it more of an apple macbook kind of look. This "mod" if i can call it that is very simple to do and looks great:

1. You will need the apple stickers which come standard with the iPhone or iPod Touch. (I tried the bigger ones that came with Snow Leopard, but found it to look far to big and awkward).

2. Simply apply one sticker first and make sure to get the perfect placement, as long as you get the orientation of the sticker spot on then it should cover the dell logo.

3. Next take another sticker (You will need at least 2 but 3 looks even better) and place it directly over the other sticker to complete the look.

I think that this looks very good and not as tacky and cheap as i first expected. I will supply some pictures below of what the final product should look like.

If anyone has any improvements they would like to make then feel free to suggest them.

That actually does look quite impressive for just a sticker! I like! I might have to attempt this when I get mine... wonder how it'll look on white...

I have the exact same mod going in mine!

But, even with two official iphone apple stickers, you can easily see through to the Dell logo.

2 meters away, and people stare in confusion...

Ha, one advantage to buying the SL box set, got mine for $109 shipped off Ebay, is it comes with two nice sized Apple logo's.
Looks good, in your avatar pic I thought you had actually cut it out on the lid.

I've been tempted to do this - with a combined 2 iphones and 3 ipods in the house we have a bunch of the stickers to spare. Thanks for posting the pics, looks pretty damn good, I might just try it now.

The only thing I was thinking of doing was trimming down the lower layered one so it would have a more seemly edge...

That's what I've done to mine. The infamous Dell Logo still appear under the sticker .

Are they good quality long lasting decals? You could get some hobby filler, auto glazing compound or other substance to go over the Dell logo and paint it before applying the Apple decal.
I think there is a slight recess where the Dell logo is, use an old credit card to spatula it out nice and thin until it is flush.
I'd recommend getting some hobby filler at a hobby shop, then you can pick up a small bottle of gloss black too to paint the area.

On our MSI Wind's, we have actually made an Apple logo like the real MacBook! Its glows using the backlight from the LCD. A fine example of this work is here: http://www.insanelywind.com/forum/do...php?id=220&t=1 and http://www.insanelywind.com/forum/do...php?id=219&t=1

That was originally a MSI Wind, now known as the MacBook Nano. I can also link to a tutorial on how to perform the Glowing Apple Logo mod if you request.
