Default NBI 0.8.3 RC5 vs Final? - 12-27-2009, 12:50 AM

Hi,

I now have what feels like a stable installation of 10.6.2 using NBI 0.8.3 RC5 and all seems to be working well.

Are there any benefits to installing the 'Final' version or should I just stick with what's working? If I don't install the Final version, will something bite me in the butt at a later date?

These may be simple questions to most of you here but sometimes this stuff feels like particle physics to me...

Thanks for reading,

Ian

I think I read that the final version is almost like release candidate 5.
if you're happy with your mini and don't encounter problems then just stick with what you have got now.

you can still update to final when there's a problem.

I for myself have decided not to change anything until the next snow leopard software update.

You don't have to upgrade, but the final release is probably a bit more stable.

From what i have read, there are issues with the final, several things are broken in it. Wait a while, there isn't much improvement over RC 5.

Edit- Disregard, I was behind in my forum reading. Looks like a nice upgrade.

It is a bit confusing. According to MechDrew OS X Netbook News | Blog | OSX | mechdrew there was a glitch in the final release, but it was later redacted and now has been corrected. The saga is related in this thread NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 Final (Official Release)

There are some minor tweaks vs. RC5 Meklort's Blog.

For the most part, the NBI 0.8.3 Final as it is now works well. w7ox has linked all of the relevant information already, but just to reiterate most of the problems were related to a bad version that was only available for about five hours.

Thanks to everyone for the clarification. I downloaded 0.8.3 Final and it probably goes without saying that it installed perfectly and my 10v is booting and running perfectly.

Thanks all.
