I'm currently stuck with exactly the same issue originally reported by londonbabe.

SPECS: Dell Inspiron 1011, Intel Atom CPU N280 @ 1.60Ghz, 2GB ram. CPU ID is 106C2.
BIOS: Original A06, then downgraded to A04

I followed the instructions off of Mechdrew's well written guide (USB Installation via Mac) but continue to receive a kernel panic immediately at boot time:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x1b497459): "Unsupported CPU: family = 0x6, model = 0x1c, stepping = 0x2"@SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-90/pmProcessor.c:210

I have tried both a USB stick as well as a USB HD with matching results. I used a 10.6 retail DVD to image the boot disk, then ran NetbookBootMaker 0.8.3.app to prepare them for installation. (If the info helps, my preparation system is an iMac 24" running 10.6.2)

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

I just tried again with the new 'Final' image, and am happy to report that it all worked perfectly.

My Mini 10v is now running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 perfectly.

Default had this issue, but now something else - 02-25-2010, 06:44 PM

i am using the 2 USB method. i used to get the kernel panic, recreated the NBI_083F.img and it's getting to the gray screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. however, it stays there. no progress after 10-15 minutes.

mini 10v, model # PP19S, trying to install OS X 10.6 retail.

not sure if it's related to the original problem. any help would be appreciated. the Troubleshooting guide is a little vague. I tried the -x -f -v boot options to no avail, and double checked the BIOS settings. the only other hunch is the USB key itself. I am using SanDisk GigaWare, which was a little cheap. not sure if it simply doesn't support everything.

fwiw, i tried the NetbookBootMaker on a Mac Mini running 10.6.2, and it crashes unexpectedly, not writing anything to the USB drive.

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x1b497459): "Unsupported CPU: family = 0x6, model = 0x1c, stepping = 0x2"@SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-90/pmProcessor.c:210

This is EXACTLY the problem I am having at boot, everytime, with the same boot preparation media.

What is causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated otherwise I'm stuck with a borked Mini10v and this is really eating in to my worktime now!

EDIT: Sidenote - I re-read the guide and realised I was formatting my BootUSB with "Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) instead of just Mac OSX Extended, and am repartitioning now to see if this is the issue. For some reason it is taking an insanely long time (4+ hours)

Edit2: THIS SOLUTION WORKS
