Ok, so I go it working. I had erroneously restored the install DVD from the USB to the hard drive in the 10v. This was an artifact of when I had tried a previous install.
Unfortunately, if you do this, there is no way to remove that partition from OS X. Unless you can make another bootable USB stick with a tool to kill the partition, you are SOL.
Fortunately, I was able to make one with ultimate boot cd on it, and whacked the mac os x partition on the hard drive.
Then I followed the guide, and it went pretty smoothly.
I used NBM and NBI 0.83 alpha.
Now I am Mac OS X 10.6.2, and all is good.
Pretty darn slick. I still have the audio pop after resume, which is anonoying, and I wish the trackad was better.
But all in all, for $300, it is great.
