Unhappy SCREWED UP! - invalid partition table - 12-13-2009, 10:25 PM

Hey everyone,

So i had everything up and running just fine... i was dual boot windows xp and snow leopard 10.6.2. followed all the right guides (mostly mechdrews) and was happy.

THEN i just had to try and adjust the partitions to give more space to osx and only about 20 gigs to xp.

I made a backup of the windows xp partition and deleted it... then i went to adjust the osx partition in disk util to make it bigger. I then restarted to see if it took effect and now every time i restart i get this error.

(sorry if it is a bit blurry)

I would like to just start from scratch, reinstall snow leopard and partition the sizes right the first time.

Thank you so much!

EDIT: Running Dell mini 10v, 160 gb HDD, 1 gig ram, no blue tooth (if that helps)

I know that with a Windows 7/OSX dual boot you can boot into the Win7 install USB, make the Win7 partition active and run a repair. I'm just not sure if XP has the same ability within setup. I think there's an option to recover/repair a WinXP installation during setup. If so, it might be able to repair the partition and make it bootable again. Just remember to make the SL partition active again for Chameleon to work.

Hope this helps.

Talking great success! - 12-15-2009, 04:28 AM

hey man thanks for the advice.

I ended up taking the hdd out and connecting it to my roommates macbook pro via usb cable. I then used his computer to repartition/reformat the drive and started from scratch. After all that i plugged it back into the min10v and booted from the USB that i created for installing osx (learned how from mechdrews guides). I now have everything up and running again but decided to not dual boot it this time around.

Hope this helps if someone runs into the same problem that i did!

Default Me too! - 12-29-2009, 12:42 AM

I get the same screen only under slightly different circumstances. I had 10.6 running fine, then a failed XP install wouldn't let anything other than Ubuntu live USB boot so I installed Ubuntu then it let me install XP, but COULD NOT get Chameleon bootloader to boot. That is until today- I got all the way up to installing 10.6 again when I realized I still had partitions from the existing dual boot, so I deleted the XP partition.

Big mistake- When I tried to boot back in, the bootloader wouldn't come up. I just got the error at the top of the thread. then I re-installed Ubuntu on the whole disk thinking that might help. No luck there either- same error.

Another note- for whatever reason I've had to recreate the Chameleon thumb drive about 90 times before it would work both times that I've successfully made it to the install even when I get the 50 in, 50 message in command prompt. I don't know if that means anything to anyone else or if it's common. I also CAN NOT create the thumb drives with Vista (yes even when running as administrator). It has to be XP or Ubuntu to even get to the correct records in/out message.

Please help!!! I'm going crazy here.

Found a fix! Imaged my thumb drive with win32diskimager instead of using dd and it worked perfect- booted right in.
