What confuses people I think is the term "update version". Since Apple doesn't sell the OS for non Apple hardware, from their perspective every individually sold dvd is an upgrade. You get the license with the hardware, after that anything you do is a restore or and upgrade. It's semantics. From the hobbyists perspective then their are two types of DVD. The ones bundled with the hardware, which will restore the machine, and the separate upgrade DVDs that can coincidentally perform a full install. There are various flavors of that second class of DVD: single use, family license, with bundled app suites etc.

The SL "upgrade" is a bit of an anomaly, Previously Apple has generally sold full system install sets for major upgrades - like 10.4 to 10.5 - for considerably more than $30, and given away the minor updates - like 10.4 to 10.4.11 - which could only update an existing system and not do a full install from scratch. That being the case, it is hard to avoid the suspicion that someone at Apple screwed up and gave away more in the $29.95 pack than they were supposed to!
So to long time Apple watchers, the synergy between Apple's decision to sell a full install disk at a reasonable price, and the emergence of the netbooks, some which just happened to have the right parts inside to run that system, after being so protective of their franchise for so long, is terribly amusing. It would be really interesting to know how many Minis and other non-Apple netbooks are currently running OSX, I suspect the number would give Apple a real headache!

Well, if he did, it was in another post. I was replying to this thread.
As far as which version of iLife works best, I don't have it, as there are many posts about 09 not working properly, but 08 does. Screen resolution issues, etc. If you have it working properly, I am happy for you.
