I did some research, you wont believe it but a lot of times this issue is fixed by hitting the bottom of the machine...it sounds crazy but I read about 10 replies that this actually worked...another solution is that the machine might be trying to boot from the network card..take your choice..but giving the machine a couple of smackes might just work..and this suggestion actually came from someone who works at microsh*t
here's the link..read it yourself

The issue is most likely that your hard disk has come loose from the socket. You need to open the hard disk enclosure (for a laptop) and usually you can stich a screwdriver in at the opposite end from the socket and push the disk in.The error is because you have the network as one of the boot devices, the BIOS tries for the disk but doesn't find it, probaby tries the DVD/CD next with no luck so then tries the network and gives the error you see.
I just fixed an ASUS laptop with this problem by reseating the hard drive in it. The reason the hitting works, especially hitting on the right side, is that it jolts the disk in slightly so it is again making a connection, but the connection will be poor and is likely to be lost again if the laptop gets another knock.

I'm getting the same message on my HP Pavillion:PXE-E6: Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE-M0f: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
I've tried whacking it as well, although Im not sure if I'm doing it hard enough, and I'm still getting the same message. I know nothing about computers but I've heard that this is a common problem among PC Notebooks? All I want to know is if files can be extracted...at this point I could care less about the computer, I'm over this pos and getting a new one anyways but theres 1 particular file that is saved on the desktop that my grade this semester is riding on and I need it ASAP.
Someone help. I need the reassurance...

Dudes this is all to funny. I was working on an old Compaq laptop for a friend. I was getting the failure message and couldn't do anything for a few days. I saw these posts and figured I could beat the heck out of the bottom or throw it at the wall and sure enough I was able to boot it and restore restore the system. Now the question is - Is there a loose wire or was the cd stuck. Sooner or later I assume something has to come completely loose?

. . O
I'VE FOUND THE 10000000% SOLUTION!!!
I work for Microsoft in the DownTec PXE-2886 sector of the Technical DOS and Managing BIOS 'solutions division' where we resolve this problem 100's of times a day, where computers are sent back to us under warranty. We discovered that on our lunch breaks when we ordered a KFC, there appeared to be only 6pc chicken in the Bargain Bucket. Then i put it on its side and BASHED the botton really hard 4 times and 8pc chicken came out VOILA!!!
