Default New 10v: 10.6 installed w/NBM 0.8.2, what next? - 12-09-2009, 11:37 PM

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer after looking back in the threads (actually, I kinda did but just got more confused)...

But, what Netbook Installer(s) do I need to run after a new 10.6 install w/NBM 0.8.2 on my 10v (BIOS A04)? And in what order? And do I reboot or not in between?

I'd really appreciate a pointing in the right direction! This type of hack is new to me, and I really would prefer not to screw it up.

Default A few easy steps - 12-09-2009, 11:49 PM

Run 0.8.2 after the install. Then reboot, do not do 10.6.2 update! Then run 0.8.3 RC4, then do the 10.6.2 update, DO NOT reboot, run 0.8.3 RC4 again then reboot. Then run 0.8.3 RC4 again as your sound won't be working, reboot again, and you should be good to go. Still trying to determine if yesterday's WiFi update works, so hold off on that for now.

Thank you so much for the reply.

What if I only want to upgrade to 10.6.1 for now? Or, is that just silly at this point and I should just bust a move to 10.6.2?

No no no no, after you install rc2, run rc3,rc4 (to make sure), install 10.6.2, DO NOT REBOOT then install rc4 again, then reboot, if you dont, youll get a endless loop

Thanks, dude245.

To be triple sure...I just downloaded the following from meklort's blog:

NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC2
NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC3
NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC4

My Dell Mini 10v is currently loaded with Snow Leopard 10.6, having used NetbookBootMaker 0.8.2.

I will next:

- Install NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC2, no reboot
- Install NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC3, no reboot
- Install NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC4, no reboot
- Update to 10.6.2, Absolutely no REBOOT
- Install (again) NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC4
- Now reboot

The process is making me really nervous, to the point of almost resigning myself to living with the current glitches. So, please forgive me for confirming the process in detail.

Thanks in advance (again)!!

I just got a new mini, and I too was a little confused about the process. What I did was:

* Install OS 10.6.0.
* Install 10.6.1 update, reboot.
* Install NBI 0.8.3 RC4, reboot.
* Install 10.6.2 update, reboot. (broke sound)
* Install NBI 0.8.3 RC4, reboot (fixed sound)

I just did this yesterday, so I'm pretty sure of the process. If you don't have the 10.6.1 update lying around (I saved it, since heard about 10.6.2 breaking atom, and I was planning on getting a netbook) you can probably download from Apple's website. Also, you should be able to do the same process minus the 10.6.1 step and just use the 10.6.2 comboupdate, but I can't say I've tried it.

Sh*t, now I'm more confused that ever which route to take... Thanks, though, for relaying your experience.

I broke the bootup with 10.6.2, I just created a USB stick with the installer and 0.8.3RC4 on it. Boot the USB, select "Utilities" from the menu at the top of the screen, then run NetbookInstaller from there. Shut down, reset the BIOS options (disable legacy USB) and 10.6.2 works great now.

Note that you don't need to install all the updates of NBI or OSX. If you want 10.6.2, just install that, you don't need to install 10.6.1. All the fixes are in the latest version. As you have it installed already, at worst you have to boot from your USB and re-run NBI. It's not that big of a deal.

I just went to 10.6.2 without a problem.

Install 10.6.0
Install NBI 0.8.3 RC4
Install 10.6.1
Install NBI 0.8.3 RC4
Reboot

Install 10.6.2
Install NBI 0.8.3 RC4
Reboot

As far as I can tell, everything works.
