It's the kext:
VLC sound but no video
Only just found that thread.
Just means I'll have to run NBI before I plug my hackintot into a projector from now on, but that's really not that big a deal. It'll be a little annoying to have to reinstall the OSXRestart.kext every time, though.
One additional symptom for people to be aware of: my screensaver (Flurry) was really choppy as well.

Personal question: does anyone see a reason to use VLC over Quicktime 7? I could really use the spare ~100MB that VLC takes up, and QT7 seems to be running pretty well...
iMac G4 (17") "Snow Maiden" MacOS 10.5.8
Mini 10v "Bumblebee" MacOS 10.6.4 / NBI 20100616...

re streaming - 12-06-2009, 08:24 PM
i downloaded divx codecs, flip for mac wav codec, and perian swiss army knife codecs.
These are all codecs for the quicktime player.
VLC player does a real sh**ty job with streaming videos from my server to my 10v over wifi.
VLC player would studder, but with the codecs installed with quick time, its smooth as silk.
