Default How to install Photoshop elements 8 in 10v (screen resolution issue)?? - 11-20-2009, 08:57 PM

hi there,

Have anyone figure out how to go around the screen resolution issue while installing PSE 8? I see a lot of people have CS4 installed without a problem and there are 2 posts on 10v OSX screen resolution issues but none offer a definitive answer... the best I could get was 1) use an external monitor (I do not have) to install but this has not been confirmed as working and 2) use a program based on APE that every one and their mother say do not use..

Some help will be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,

Luis

Easiest way would probably be an external screen or remote desktop.

SwitchResX.

Look for an older posting (say 3 or 4 months ago) of mine regarding using it for use with iSale for more info. Other folks have used it for other things also. There's no way to access the bottom part of the screen, there is no virtual scrolling. For iSale I could set the screen size to 1024 x 768, start the program, reset the size to 1024 x 600 and use the small "+" button to get the window to resize and be completely on the screen and use the program quite normally.

If you haven't found a solution yet, here's how I did it (assuming your installing from a .dmg/usb drive).

Go to the folder payloads/AdobePhotoshopElements6All (payloads is in the same location as Setup.app).

Open the file AdobePhotoshopElements6All.proxy.xml and search for 1024
right around there is the line:
Exclude":{"Width":"800","Height":"600"}}}

Edit it so that the value for height is less than 600, save and the installation should go well

EDIT: just realised you're trying it with ps elements 8, what I did worked with 6.0. I would think something similar would work with 8 as well, but can't guarantee it.

Hey Svano,

How do you edit that AdobePhotoshopElements6All.proxy.xml file? The dmg is locked and I can't write the file back even if I change the permissions..

For me that was not an issue, it just worked. I copied my installation DVD onto a usb drive by following the same process as when I made the usb drive that I installed Snow leopard from. When I mounted the drive I didn't have any problems editing the file.

What's you situation. Did you download the image, is it the trial version?

I downloaded my dmg. The trial and purchase version are the same, you just punch in your serial #.

Yeah, they're the same. Just thought the way I made mine could have something to do with it. Sorry, I can't really help much. It just worked for me. Maybe you could try making a bootable usb-drive like I did? Just a stab in the dark really...

I got my copy of PSE from Staples black Friday sale, installed it using SwitchResX just like I suggested here before.

Not really interested in SwitchResX. I'm looking for a simpler, free solution.
