On a lot of keyboards, especially laptop ones, your function keys will often double as special laptop-specific keys. If you look at the keys you will see the usual F1, F2, etc, but also on those keys will be little icons for things like volume up and down, screen dim/brighten, etc.

As mentioned above, in the 10v bios settings you have an setting to decide on the primary settings for the F-keys, multimedia or function. Whichever you choose, the other can be accessed via holding the FN key (bottom left of keyboard) and pressing the F-key in question.

However if your dsdt file has not been generated then you might have problems like I have had, and the bios settings get wiped every boot (which meant I had go to into the bios and switch Legacy USB and the Wake options each I restarted).

If you are having problems like this, have a look at the sticky about generating a dsdt file, and hopefully it'll help you out.

Personally I keep the multimedia keys as main. I like having the volume and brightness controls right there, shrug.

Anyway, good luck to ya.

Same problem here. Ran the netbookinstaller (latest), no luck. F1 key causes the grey screen to come up.

Thing is, the system is not dead; it's some sort of "overlay". Alt-tab brings up the little pointing glove cursor, and I can hear applications (skype e.g.) in the background making their usual noises.

Anyone figure this one out yet?

As a bandaid to the situation, you can close your lid to make your computer sleep. When it wakes up, it'll be back to normal.

I'll try that, thank you.

Unfortunately, I seem to be having problems with sleep -- I haven't systematically looked into it, but I get the feeling that my battery is draining while it sleeps, and that if it ever gets to the point where juice is too low for it to come back without power, it does not wake from sleep.

I'll give it a go, though.

Hey

Yeah I'm having issues with F1 and Sleep mode too.

I've tried (what I think) is every combination of things - including deleting the dsdt file, running NBI 0.8.2 and then running RC4 - but nothing!

Actually, the dsdt is updated by RC4 but not created by it.

Hey

Yup, I've done that. I've even just run 0.8.2 (defaults) and NOT run RC4 (I'm running 10.6 - no upgrade) and nothing.

Everything's working fine apart from Sleep and it's really doing my head in!!
