Default Installation issues - 11-19-2009, 05:50 PM

Hey guys, having read up on all the guides and recieved my 10v I decided to install OSX I created the bootable flash drive and set it to boot, but I get stuck on the very first screen, grey screen with an apple logo in black. The video I have shown shows a pinwheel, but I do not have this, also the USB drive is not flashing so not in use. I know it can take some time over this screen, but it has now been 25 minutes, is this normal? I don't wanna turn it off in case it screws up the install

oops, bit of an idiot moment there, I've sorted it. Maybe someone could delete the thread?

How did you sort it? I'm stuck at that point too, having followed every instruction so far to the letter...

Or if anyone else has any ideas, that'd be useful too...

So, I'm having another go with a Windows machine to prepare the USB stick, as I don't have access to the Mac I used to prepare my original one.

I've followed this guide, preparing the USB sticks: NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System | Guides | OS X | mechdrew

Then I reboot and get to Chameleon and I choose the left-most icon of three, labelled "Apple_HFS". When I hit that, though, I get an error saying "Can't find mach_kernel", and it dumps me back at the screen.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am also getting the mach_kernel error from the Chameleon screen. I've tried both the Windows and Mac install methods (several times each).

Got past the issue by making an install USB stick with the Mac, but using the windows-created smaller bootloader drive. A hybrid of both approaches, essentially.

Installing full OS X now. Will be back if I run into any more problems.

Which version of the bootloader did you you use? I had no luck with 0.8.3RC3 from a windows computer and OSx 10.6 on HDD from a Mac.

Complete success with the RC3 bootloader burnt on Windows to a small USB drive and an image burnt using a very old Panther(!) Mac to a large USB drive. Haven't updated it beyond 6.2.0 yet, but I might leave that for a while till the process is a little more documented.

Well, it looks like the USB drives may have been a problem for me. I tried three different drives with multiple versions of the boot installer. But as soon as I hooked up a USB CD drive with the Boot CD, things seem to go better. It is about 10 minutes away from completion according to the installer. Crossing my fingers...
