Default How I fixed the awaking from sleep problem on my 10v Hackintosh!!!! - 11-15-2009, 06:09 PM

The sleep problem I was having on my dell 10v Hackintosh was whenever I opened the lid and the laptop came on after sleeping the screen would come up but the entire OS was frozen and I couldn't do anything but force a hard restart. The first way I found to fix the problem where when you open your lid on your hackintosh and the screen comes up after sleeping but it is frozen is to disable your bluetooth in the BIOS. However this is a pain and you are constantly disable/enabling bluetooth. So the easy fix for me is:

1.Opening up the terminal and typing "sudo pmset lidwake 0" (without the quotes obviously). This is the only unnecessary step but it helped other problems I had where the screen would open and would be completely black, so I would recommend doing this, this just prevents your computer from automatically waking from sleep when you open the lid and you just have to press the power button to wake from sleep.
2. Next type "sudo pmset hibernatemode 3". Not sure what the 3 mode does differently but it defaults to 1. You can check that all these commands worked properly by typing "sudo pmset -g". Make sure you spelled hibernatemode and lidwake right because I don't have my Hackintosh in front of me so I am spelling them from memory.
3. Next just restart your computer and hit F2 at the dell screen to open your BIOS. Go to the advanced tab I believe and disable the option "Legacy USB support".

Thats it, boot up your system and test out your sleep. It worked like a charm for me where the OS automatically disables bluetooth when it goes to sleep then re-enables it when you wake from sleep. Let me know if it works for you

Thumbs down Works like a charm... EXCEPT - 11-17-2009, 03:52 AM

Works like a charm... EXCEPT since I downgraded to A04 BIOS, whatever changes I make only last for 1 reboot! If I restart (or shutdown then power on) my Mini 10v a SECOND time, the BIOS defaults to "Legacy USB support" ENABLED - which breaks this fix - any other suggestions?

Question - has anyone tried updating the BIOS back to version A06 once Snow Leopard has been installed?

Default USB legacy support reverts - 11-17-2009, 04:42 AM

I am also running BIOS A04 and I dont believe I have this problem so this might be caused by a setting inside your BIOS. This is something I would google about BIOS settings being reverted. Does anyone else have this problem and what have they done about it?

-Also, I am curious if anyone has updated back to A06 after the install

I had this problem too. My fix was to to install netbook installer version 8.2 final, unchecking the box for chameleon, then reboot. It did give me a kernel panic, so i booted from my usb drive, and reinstalled netbook installer 8.3 4 RC from the USB drive. This fixed my problem of USB legacy support turning back on after each restart. It was a lil scary but this did fix my issue with sleep and USB legacy support turning on in the bios.
I'm running 10.6.2 with bios A05.

Cool. Scary but Cool. This did work for me as well (BIOS A04). The Chameleon Checkbox does not seem to be relevant. I left it checked in NBI 0.8.2. The system was not even able to boot. Then Booting form USB and reinstalled NBI 0.8.3RC4, and now the BIOS does not reset any more....... Question is: Is this whole thing only a Problem of fresh installs with NBI 0.8.3RC4 ?

when you boot from usb drive, are you using the install usb stick that netbookbootmaker created? or do you have a full osx install on a usb drive?

i did a fresh install of 0.8.3rc4 and have the bios reset problem too

so I just tried disabling USB Legacy Support and actually the closed lid sleep works now. If I put it in sleep mode through finder I simply have to press the power button once and it turns back on. it needs a sec to turn bluetooth back on but it works.

thanks for the tips guys as always....now just gotta sort out the trackpad!
