Default Successful soft hack to connect MBAir Superdrive to iMac - 07-25-2010, 06:21 PM

I tried the soft method - This was on a Intel iMac Model "Imac9,1".

I edited the AppleUSBODD file in the KEXT by adding both "Imac" and "Imac9" (I didn't know which one would work) in the two places and it worked. The MacBookAir external superdrive is now recognized - no need to do the booting thing, just connect it and boot normally (haven't tried a hot plug in yet). Burning also works well. NOTE: BBedit is a bit cumbersome to use; make sure to add a space before and after the computer names.

Just a thought, for $55 the Iomega Slim DVD was plug and play on my 10v SL 10.6.4 machine.
