Default Changing the Hackintosh back to Windows - 11-10-2009, 12:42 AM

I recently installed OSX onto my 10v but I'm not sure if OSX is for me. Is it possible to restore my netbook to the factory settings (windows xp) if I needed to? If it is, can anyone explain how I would go about doing that?

Thanks for the help.

You'll want to change your partition map back to a windows bootable MBR, get your hands on an external CD/DVD drive, and install XP by booting from the external drive.

you'll need an external usb cd/dvd drive. Restart your computer with your Windows startup disk (that came with your computer) in the cd/dvd drive and the installation should start. It will erase everything on your hard drive and re-install Windows.

I've never done it, but wouldn't getting an external cd/dvd drive and then booting from the disk that came with the dell do it?

I wondered about this myself. Luckily I have an extra 2.5" HD that I am going to use for my OS X upgrade, if I ever get around to doing it...

EDIT: oops... 2 others beat me to it while I was typing... lol

You could do what I did and download "WinSetupFromUSB" and use that tool to do it through USB. All you need is your original Dell Restore Disc. Not that hard, tbh. ;-)

When you change back to Windows, you will need to reinstall many of the drivers form the Dell Drivers disk or you will be without many operations like WiFi. Start with re-installing the drivers for the Intel Chip set and go down the list.

And what do we do if we have no access to an external drive or a PC? I want to sell my 10v but need to put back the windows OS before I do. And the only other computer I have is an iMac.

Any ideas?

Borrow an external CD drive from someone - that's the best way. There are also tools to put the Windows install on a bootable USB drive.
