I got the same thing. I had to do this:
Open cmd (Administrator) window. Type:
2. select disk # (whichever one is your USB)
Remove the stick, reinsert it. When it asks to format, say no, then try and do the dd command again.
This guy: DD.exe Access is denied on Windows 7 had the same issue.

Are you using the iso or the img version of the NetBookCD installer? I got the same thing that you did until I switched to the img version. Of course, now I have the boot usb working but it cannot find the mach_kernel. I can see the Mac OS X Install DVD on the second usb but none of the boot options will locate the mach_kernel so I cannot proceed
EDIT: I figured out the problem. My new 32GB SSD was not formatted so it was not recognized during the NBI boot process. I booted to a USB with GPARTED, formatted the SSD drive, and then booted to the NetbookInstaller image and could then proceed with the SL install. DUH! It's always the simple things that get overlooked!
