Default I have some Mini 10v questions (RAM upgrade related).... - 10-26-2009, 03:31 AM

So, I'm considering getting a Mini 10v for my first Hackintosh. Everything is "specced out" & it looks like it'll be a pretty decent Mac Netbook. Been a longtime Mac user and I know that getting RAM for a Mac is always an interesting subject (Apple RAM pricing vs. 3rd party RAM).

My question is what would people recommend for a type of RAM for a 2GB upgrade? I've seen a lot of different suggestions on these forums & I'm just trying to find a consensus before I go & buy the extra RAM. Reliability, ease of installation process, prices, etc all would play a factor in my decision. So, I'm asking the community that is the expert on the Dell Mini 10v Hackintosh. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get whatever is on sale. The Minis seem to be very forgiving on brand/speed. Don't spend extra on so-called faster RAM, you won't notice any performance increase.

As for ease of installation, that doesn't play into the upgrade. You will have to partially disassemble the 10v to get at the bottom of the system to replace the SODIMM module.

WolfKeeper, thanks for the advice. I started doing some research on Newegg Newegg memory

How does Crucial memory hold up? Oh, & I found something kinda interesting. On the specs page for the Mini
Dell Mini 10 & Mini 10v Netbook Product Details
it says that 2GB RAM is a configurable option for the Mini 10 & Mini 10v yet no actual option shows up when configuring a laptop. Might give Dell a call about that tomorrow.

edit: Nevermind, apparently the 2GB option exists for the Mini 10
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
still looking for information about 2GB built in for the Mini 10v

As long as Windows XP continues to be sold they won't sell it with more than 1GB of RAM, due to their licensing agreement with Microsoft. You used to be able to add more RAM when configuring it with Ubuntu.

Crucial is fine, I use it in my desktops. I have Kingston in my 10v.

I bought the cheapest I could find. $17 and it works fine. No need for anything with a brand name.

Agreed. I've upgraded a number of 10vs to 2gb and they've all performed well regardless of manufacturer (unlike an Apple...).

Where did you find 2GB for $17? I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything under $30.

No luck there. Some links from a search say $24 but you go to the page and it's $40 or more (Grrr). Guess I may just get something for ~$40 from Newegg.
