Default hibernate image too old - 04-14-2010, 08:51 PM

I am now getting hibernate image too old, got both USB Bios settings turned off, ran NBI 0.8.4 RC1 and I am using 10.6.3.

Tried doing the Terminal method but when I try entering:

sudo pmset hibernatemode 0

it asks for my root password as expected, now I didn't set any passwords when I installed and it doesn't let me progress. I have tried it with several of my passwords but still no chance of it working.

So I am now stuck at this point!

Any suggestions??

OK I noticed that even though I was unchecking hibernate in NBI, it was still showing it as enabled after restart so in a last ditch effort, I tried NBI again, this time however I unchecked the option to regenerate the DSDT file, unchecked the hibernate option again and set it off.

I restarted and the message has gone away, I have also opened up NBI again and yes hibernate is now disabled, no need to use Sudo.

I would like to know how I can get my sudo root commands working again, never had any issues in linux using sudo so I don't know why OS X is giving me any.

Nope, sudo is asking for *your* password not the root one. Sudo is in part about getting rid of a root password. :-)

Well I don't use a password and for some reason when it asks for a password when I just press enter it doesn't work.

If you don't have one set up currently you have to create a password in system preferences>accounts. Then go into terminal, enter the command, when prompted enter your just created password, and let it do its thing. If you dont want a password go back into sys prefs>accounts and reset your password to being blank.

seems long but that's how it works.

I, too, had the "Hibernate Image File too old..." warning at boot time. I also had had a couple of kernel panics at boot time that [I sensed] might be related to this problem.

This is on a late-model mini10v, OS 10.6.3, running the latest Netbook Installer.

The fix posted by lars476 in post #80 worked for me.

After changing the parameter (in Terminal) and deleting the old file, no further "warnings" at boot time. No kernel panics since the change.

Please keep in mind that Chameleon assumes default hibernate file location as
/private/var/vm/sleepimage
To check actual file location use terminal command
pmset -g | ghrep hibernatefile

My sllepimage happen to be in /var/vm/sleepimage so I added a new property to /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist:
<key>WakeImage</key>
<string>/var/vm/sleepimage</string>
and annoying message "Hibernate Image File too old..." gone for my hibernatemode=3

Curious souls may want to download Chameleon source code and analyze i386/boot2/boot.c file.

i know i was getting the same screen when booting up to mac, so i reinstalled mac from the beginning and then used the latest netbookinstaller and made sure that the hibernation fix was enabled, i still get the same screen but don't have to do anything with it and it still boots up mac

Sorry but there are so many proposed solutions I'm quite lost.

Can somebody please point me in the right direction?
I'm running 10.5.8 with NBI 0.8.3 RC4

I'm getting this hibernate image file too old by XXXXXXX seconds (number has just gotten larger and larger from day 1) Use Forcewake =Y ...

Whom do I follow?

I've used these twice with 10.6.2, should work for you too......one line at a time and hit enter after each......

sudo pmset hibernatemode 0

sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage

Thanks for that.
Message is now gone.
However, once the grey Apple logo comes on, it now seems to take a longer time for the spinning wheel to come on. The Grey Apple logo literally pauses there for a good 5 seconds before the spinning wheel comes up. Any idea why?

I'm new to this forum but can I make a suggestion to any of the admins reading?

When on a thread where the question has answers which have been confirmed as working, it wouldn't be too difficult to edit the first post of that thread to add on the different solutions worked out. This will help alot of newbies. Rather than having to trudge through 9 pages looking for it... .
