Default Confused about OSX Retail pricing - 09-29-2009, 05:04 PM

Hey all, first time poster here! Just ordered a 10v from the Dell Outlet (as well as a 2GB stick from newegg! woo!). Cant wait! Im a bit confused as to what OSX to buy as Im not a previous Apple user. I see Snow Leopard on the Apple website for $29.99 yet I see it on other websites for $150 or so? I know I need to buy a retail version of OSX to install on my 10v, but Im confused as to which one I need to buy? Is the $29.99 from the Apple store the right one?

Thanks for the time!

You are in breach of Apple's software license if you install OSX on non-apple hardware. It's up to you to decide if you wish to proceed but if you do then you may want to wonder what you'd get from Apple by paying for the Single use license over the upgrade license.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm still confused. Can someone just give me an answer of what I need to buy to get OSX installed? Is the $29.99 one just the upgrade? It says Single License but I'm still confused as to whether that's the full OSX and not just the upgrade?

If anyone could help a new guy out that would be great. And yes i'm aware that it's in breach of Apples license.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

$29.99 upgrade version is good for a first time user. I started of just like you did with out the 2 gig upgrade

Bottomline: There is absolutely no difference between the dvds packaged in any of the versions ($29 "upgrade", $49 upgrade family pack, or the full retail versions) at the moment. This could change . . . At some point they'll start selling 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 disks and "may" change the rules. Making all the disks the same made producing the massive volume for launch day a lot easier . . .

Anyway, its up to you to decide which version to buy. You're already violating the EULA by installing on non-apple hardware.

I have SL on the way ($24.99 @ Amazon), but have a *cough* 10.5.6 version on the 10v now. I wanna go legit.
