Uhh... what OS are you attempting to install? What method are you using?
I am assuming OSX, but I am still at a loss to what method you are using...

You absolutely must update your operating system before you run DellEFI or NetbookInstaller. If you run it on top of 10.5.0 - 10.5.4ish, you will get a kernel panic.
NetbookInstaller will not allow you to run it on the os unless if it is 10.5.6 for that same reason.
I would boot from the usb drive (to the install disk), open up the terminal and delete /Volumes/<target>/Extra/
Then reboot using the usb driver as the bootloader to start up your internal drive (in safe mode) and you should be abel to update (and after another reboot, install DellEFI or NetbookInstaller).
