Default 10.5.7 -> .8; Wake from sleep much faster? - 08-27-2009, 01:34 PM

I noticed a significant increase in wakeup speed since doing the upgrade. Before it was a few seconds, now it is instant. If I open the top or hit a button, it immediately responds.

Did anyone else notice this? I only have 1GB Ram FYI.

I have found this to be true as well. It is really amazing, to be honest

Not sure what instigated the change...

On my last PC, when I went from XP to 7 RC1, I saw a great improvement on speed. Then my main board died. So I rebuilt with an AMD Black dual core (quad but 2 are disabled) and haven't used XP but to burn an DVD image of 7, so I cant compare on the rebuilt rig. I guess they just learn to make the operatine system more responsive to the same hardware despite being more bloated.

I do notice though it takes about 10 seconds longer for my sound to start working when waking from sleep, so maybe waking became the priority function and then turning on other things became secondary, instead of trying to do it all at once.

Hey Guys,

I just tried to update my 10v from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 and now the darn thing won't wake up after sleep. I've tried using the DellEFI 1.25a and the NBI 0.8.2 to no avail... Since you've obviously got it all working, can you provide any ideas outside of wiping it and starting all over again?

Thanks,
Tony

Uh-oh. Good luck with that. I couldn't get an answer here: Mini 10v, 10.5.8 - Will Not Wake from Sleep

Are we talking sleep, as in move the cursor into one of the corners or are we talking sleep as in pull down from apple menu? There seems to be a difference in 10.5.8.

The hot corners just start the screensaver, or some other nifty functions you can choose, at least on 10.5.8. The "All Windows" option, Exposé really, is great on the Mac Mini.

Snow Leopard on my iMac lets me put the display to sleep using a hot corner.

EDIT: I see now that you can choose the hot corners in Exposé in System Preferences too, and one of them is display sleep.

Sleep (as in this thread) in the Apple Menu puts the computer to sleep, like closing the lid or tapping the power button and choosing that option does.
