  • Extract “DellMiniBoot” files to it
  • Download the NetbookInstaller .8.3RC3 and put it on USB
  • Open Command Prompt (as Administrator)
  • Navigate to SysLinux “win32” directory
  • Type: syslinux.exe –ma XX: (where XX is your 128+MB USB Flash Drive Letter)
  • Install “TransMac” (to make a copy of your Retail OSX DVD)
  • Insert Retail OSX DVD
  • Right-Click on DVD drive
  • Select “Save Image of Disk” to Desktop (--8GB image will take awhile--)

  • Choose your 8GB image from your Desktop
Configuration:

a earlier dead thread was discussing this method, but no one had posted weather or not it worked.

Im having a he11 of a time getting my 10v hacktoshed.

my first problem

i bought an osx upgrade disk from apple, that disk was corrupt.
I replaced that disk and now i was able to make a osx image

Every time i make the boot disks, both the osx and boot loader ones.

My bios on the 10v will not read either. I have tried 3 hard drives, 2 sd cards and 2 different usb and sata enclosures.

I'm able to load 10.5 onto my 10v and i get errors on trying to make a boot disk with my osx image, it always fails at the end.

btw the 10.5 os that installs pretty easily is a msi wind 10.5 disk.

I have tried many other methods and im almost ready to give up.

Now im still mac less in seattle.

;(

Please post your findings if/when you try this.

BTW what BIOS are you running? and are you making the OSX Image to USB on a Mac or PC?

Also this has some good tips/guides for installing OSX: Guides | OS X | mechdrew

If you already have the external USB DVD drive, then you don't need the thumb drive. You can just get NetbookCD to create a bootable CD and use it to install directly off the OS X DVD.

make sure you bless the usb device with the NetBookInstaller program.
But if you have an external DVD drive, then you should be able to just install from upgrade/retail DVD.

omg.

I finally got it working with gizmodo's method.

I loaded up my copy of 10.5 msi wind to make a usb boot drive.
with netbook installer rc4

Finally it works.

Here's all the crap i went through, just to let others who might be in my boots and wondering what the he11 is going on.

1. I bought the osx snow leopard disk... it was corrupt, i exchanged it and the new disk was readable.

2. my plextor dvdrw drive was too old and would not read the osx disk.

3. my other computer could read second osx disk, but its a laptop and i could not take it out to use it.

4. Two of my sd cards would not work, neither would boot after creating boot disks.

5. My old external enclosure that works with cd drives and hard drives did not work either.

6. lots of pulled hair.

I bought a new 16gb kingston 10mbs thumb drive
as well as a lite on dvdrw sata drive and a external sata/ide to usb adapter.
