Default Confusing RAM upgrading on1018 - 05-09-2013, 12:48 PM

Hi all

One thing that has caught my attention in my quest to speed-up my mini 1018 is the issue regarding the RAM.
The processor that's in the 1018 is a Intel Atom 455 and according to Intel's website the maximum memory size is 2 GB.

But...also according to Intel, the same processor is capable of 64-bit computing, allowing systems to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is the max RAM limit really 2GB?
It's quite confusing and i don't want to waste money on buying RAM (say 4GB's) that i'm not gonna be able too use.

2 Gig is the limit, according to what is specified by Dell. And there is only one memory slot. Remove the 1 gig, put in the 2 gig. Done.

I don't know what will happen if you try a larger size.

2GB is the maximum physical RAM. It can access more than 2GB of virtual memory, which means using the disk drive to hold pages that don't fit in RAM. It won't boot with more than 2GB RAM.
