Unhappy Fail: Upgrade to 1366x768 and 8 beeps error. - 01-05-2012, 11:03 AM

Hi. Recently I cracked my Dell 1018's original LCD with 1024x600 resolution. So I decided to upgrade my resolution when I order a new panel. I looked at eBay and ordered an item called "10.1"LCD SCREEN For Dell Inspiron Mini 10(1012) 1018 WXGA HD LED netbook NEW"

However, when I installed it, my computer rejected to boot by beeping for 8 times. I could successfully pass the LCD color test by pressing D in the boot sequence, but I could not boot normally, and I couldn't see anything on the screen.

Now all I can do is to connect my Dell Mini to an external monitor and boot it up by this way.

By the way, I also cannot use an higher resolution than 1024x600 on external monitor too.

I sent a message to the seller in eBay, he/she told me that I could need an alternative "high resolution cable" to connect my new LCD panel to my computer. So I called Dell customer service in Turkey and they told me that there was no such a cable. But the man I talked to was not educated about netbooks, so I could not justify if my netbook could handle this resolution or not.

As far as I know, GMA 3150 should permit up to 1920x1080, but I am totally confused at this point and I don't know what should I do.

Any advice?

well, I know that the 1012 can be ordered with the HD screen, and I believe I read something about others upgrading it themselves here also, maybe you just got a bad screen, I think the cables are the same and if the person you bought the screen from told you that you need a different cable why didnt they include it?, I think maybe the screen is no good and they are just BSing you

BTW: I am guessing that you have connected it properly, cable not crimped anywhere, connections are snug?

I am certain that I made the connection properly, because even the half part of the old cracked screen worked when I reconnected it. I was suspicious about the cable but I also previously sent the netbook to Dell and they told me that I had to buy a new LCD. (and they asked $180 for this procedure). Thus I decided to buy a HD screen from eBay for about $70.

I wish I had another Dell netbook to try the screen if it was bad or not. But because the color test runs flawlessly, I think there is a compatibility issue. Anyway, my only option is to send back the screen to where I bought it from, I suppose.

Do you know if a panel can be bad even if it passes the color test successfully?
