Default Change thermal paste - 12-29-2010, 01:08 AM

Hi everyone.

Finally i got my new dell mini 1018 today after ordering it from their website.

Im going to open it to change the ram and wanted to ask this, before i start all the process.

Is it good if we change the thermal paste of the cpu and the gpu with for example an artic mx-2 or artic silver or should we leave the one installed. Ive seen some pics of the motherboard and i think it has thermalpads not thermal paste so can we change this?

THanks a lot and regards.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've never had any thermal issues with my 1012, which is similar to the 1018.

Paste is only appropriate for heatsinks that are tight against the chip. In these designs, there is a small gap and "thermal gap filler" pads are used. These are not like typical heatsink pads. If you try to replace them with paste, you'll just make it worse.
