Default Dell Mini 1018 Unboxing and Photos! - 08-26-2010, 11:56 AM

Here is a vid of me unboxing my Dell Mini 1018 that arrived this morning

I've been fiddling with my new Dell Mini 1018 for the last couple of hours now, and have come up with a few first impressions of the new Mini on the block!

The design is nice, the shiny black lid and textured palmrest go well together. It is lacking a few ports, but 2 USB should still be enough, and I never really used a mic-in any way.

Screen is 1024 x 600 which is bog-standard as far as netbook resolutions go but is certainly acceptable.

Performance is not bad either, I was able to play 720 Youtube and it only a stuttered a bit - it was definitely watchable.

Trackpad is nice too but sometimes the click gets stuck on (drag lock?), there is probably a setting for this though.

Very good value for money, it's a shame there aren't any upgrade possibilities that don't involves opening the whole thing up, but I'm sure Dell will add more configurations in the future.

Obviously haven't had much a of time to drain the battery but Windows seems to predict just over 4 hours on a full charge.

It does however shiny with it's refreshed hardware, (N455 CPU, Better Trackpad) over the Mini 1012.

Full review coming soon!

am I wrong or do I count only 2 USB's, the buttons look nice, it also looks like they did away with the mic jack also... all it seems to have is the headphone jack...let us know about the video and HD video if any......Good Luck with it anyway....

Correct only 2 USB ports and no mic in! I was actually quite surprised myself.

with it being that stripped down now, those are items that can not be added later on, I am starting to doubt whether or not they will come out with more options like an HD screen or a TV Tuner or other stuff, all that is easy to add by them but aint no way they are gonna add more usbs or a mic jack....this might be it....a very basic Mini 10, the mic jack is really no big issue but the lacking usb can be, there are many times that I use all 3 on my 1010, 1 for the cooling pad, 1 for the external HD, and the other for my TomTom having only 2 could be a problem for some especially if you need to plug in a printer also..although most are wireless now a days..guess you can also get a usb hub, but that just adds more stuff to carry too.....oh well what is........is

I'd never use the microphone port but only two USB ports is very sad. The touch pad though...if that's a direct swap to a 1012 I'd do it

knowing Dell I doubt it, they probably changed the cable connections, made it 1 cm larger/smaller or something else just to it wouldnt be swappable

Hmmm... I don't really understand it.

It ordered one today and I double checked the specifications and it said (and still says) http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home...=ukdhs1&~ck=mn click tech specs:

(3)USB 2.0
Audio jacks (1 headphone, 1 microphone)

Why, if it's now the same price as the 1012 (it cost me 300€) does it come with those things removed? ._. Starting to regret about my purchase...

I don't think I will cancel it as I need a netbook (never had one) and I don't know if I will use the 3 ports but anyway, it should be specified...

(Oh, and because the 1012 dissapeared from my local Dell :P)

EDIT: By the way, it doesn't have MIC IN but does it have a microphone? (near the webcam or something?)
