Default 1012 Powers Up But No Boot - 10-17-2011, 06:54 AM

I tested the memory and hard drive in another 1012 and they work fine. When I power it up, the power light stays on, the hard drive light comes on briefly but never lights up again. The screen does not come on at all, I tried connecting to an external monitor and still no go. Could the CMOS battery need to be replaced? Any thoughts?

The battery is unlikely to cause such symptoms, and for a 1012 should not be a problem yet. It sounds to me as if something on the motherboard is dead.

I had the exact same problem. After endless tinkering, I assumed it was the motherboard. Later I surprisingly discovered it was simply the RAM memory stick had failed (Memory Master). I just changed back to the original factory 1 GB and it works fine. Will have to buy a new 2 GB now though.
