Default Bios upgrade? What does it fix? - 01-28-2011, 04:01 AM

Generally with bios upgrades I've learned not to mess with it unless something is actually broken. What is the bios upgrade for? Does it do anything? My 1012 is working fine with Win 7 x64, 2 GB ram, 320GB hdd (truecrypted), will the BIOS upgrade help or hinder?

It usually says on the bios download information. Like enhancement or fixes.

I'm like you running Win7 64bit with 2 gigs of memory and no plan of replacing A07.

I did the upgrade, I am sort of weird about BIOS updates. I do them even though I have had trouble with them for years. I used to custom build rigs for ppl, have done about 300 with my own hands. I have had probably 25-30 bios update failures over the years, but I talk myself into doing it again every time...

This one was weird, I think I posted about it already, going to A11. Hung forever, finally killed it and ran it manually from the exe. It executed then ran through on it's own and rebooted the machine without asking. I was nervous but it worked. I was on A07 before.

When in doubt, I would say don't do it. Brave or foolhardy? Do it.

Default SLP21 means "SLP 2.1" ... - 02-03-2011, 05:53 PM

SLP = "System Locked Preinstallation". It's used to preactivate windows prior to distribution.

2.1 is for Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008 R2
2.0 was for Windows Vista & Windows Server 2008
1.0 was for Windows XP & Windows Server 2003

You still need to type in the prodict key but it's basically already activated before you ever get the PC.

No idea what "CHM Mode" is, though. .CHM is a standard HTML help file. That's the only "CHM" I am aware of.

If this really is the ONLY thing this BIOS update deals with then it is of no benefit to existing Mini's that already have Windows installed on them.

ok, thanks for the headsup on the bios update. Looks like I'll be giving it a wide berth.
