Yeah, the "HD" in "Crystal HD" and "Dell Mini 10 HD" (from AT&T) is very misleading. Video playback doesn't seem much better than it did on my old Mini 10v. In fact, I kind of think this computer sucks. It takes 45 seconds to a minute to start Firefox, there's a huge lag when I try to play a song in Zune, when I try to turn up the volume, it takes a about 10-15 seconds for it to register. Luckily, I only spent $40 for California sales tax on this thing, and it's from AT&T, so I have 30-days to return it. Unfortunately, I'll be charged an activation fee and a prorated data charge.
I was thinking about getting a 2GB RAM module, but I kind of don't want to spend more money if it won't help.
I don't get it, I watched a video of the 1012 with the Broadcom card playing Hulu videos full screen on 480p and it played fine. For some reason, mine is like cheap stop-motion animation.
Edit: uninstalling all of the bloatware and disabling a few startup programs helped a little with performance. I disabled AT&T Communication Manager, Dell Support Center, msnmsgr and Wireless enable/disable. Full screen flash video still sucks though.
Are we missing something? Does anyone have good 480p-1080p video playback?
2nd Edit: I uninstalled my Flash plugin and installed the 10.2 beta. 720p Youtube videos play much better, but it didn't have an effect on 480p Hulu videos.
Rich, have you tried watching your streaming video while connected to wired ethernet?
